Character Survey of Doom
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
The best way to describe Lethe is physically fit. She's a bit curvy, but mostly she focuses on being a warrior, so her body is meant to be a weapon.
2. How old is she?
She appears to be around 18 years old according to the official book, but she is a cat Laguz. Laguz age much slower than humans, and cat laguz age at about 3.5 times slower than humans. That means her canonical age should be somewhere around 66 years old.
3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
She's almost always standing or sitting up straight, as if relaxing is prohibited, though if she were to relax she'd likely do so in such a way where it wouldn't be bad posture.
4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Lethe is in excellent shape, training her body rigorously and constantly so that she can be at peak form at all times. She hates the very idea of being weaker than others, so works her paws to the bone to make sure she stays fit.
5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Lethe is rather graceful, almost fluid in her motions like a dancer mixed with an acrobat. Most cat Laguz are very agile, and Lethe is no exception, perhaps being even more agile than many others she works with.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
Lethe is incredibly attractive physically, having a body that many people would kill for, exotic violet eyes, and orange hair that makes her stand out. However Lethe doesn't perceive herself as being attractive because she tried to shun that part of her life. She's a warrior through and through, and things like beauty and vanity are merely a distraction. She's violent tempered and harsh towards others which makes most others avoid her in a romantic sense, so she assumes she must only be attractive physically at best. She knows she's attractive in that sense because she still gets things like catcalls and flirtatious come ons by those that don't know better, but Lethe finds that to be more of an annoyance.
7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Lethe has a fairly clear complexion, most of the scars that she receives in battle having been healed before they could permanently mar her. She's very light skinned, usually staying out in the sun in her furry Laguz form which protects her from the sun's rays. She may have one or two scars, but if she does, they're in places that wouldn't be readily visible.
8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
Her hair is short, orange, straight, and smooth. Its texture is a little bit like her fur, but perhaps a little silkier, where her fur is more fluffy or fuzzy.
9. What color are her eyes?
Violet
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
Cat ears and a tail
11. What are her chief tension centers?
Her legs are her main areas of tension, since they are the strongest muscles in her body. They're also one of the more sensitive areas on her body as a result.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
Lethe's wardrobe is... very plain, and very much the same. She tends to wear the same outfit whenever she can get away with it, so she likely has six of the same outfit in her wardrobe.
13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
Yes on both accounts.
14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
Lethe dresses the same for on the job as off the job. Even when she's in disguise, all she does is put a heavy cloak over her regular tunic.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Commando >:3 (Or panties, but you know...)
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Her voice is a bit gruff and surly but with a feminine twist to it. There's also quite a few feline tones to it as well. Thanks to Fire Emblem heroes we do officially know what Lethe's voice sounds like, though I tend to prefer her Japanese VA.
2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
Usually she speaks pretty evenly with little hesitation in her words. She's often very serious and business like if she's not barking orders. Sometimes she can add a bit of a playful lilt to her voice when she's teasing, but usually it comes off a little awkwardly.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
Not that I'm aware of, although she does add a few feline characteristics into her speech so there's that. Things like hissing, growling, roaring, purring, and whatnot.
4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
She speaks... common tongue? She might be able to somewhat understand the old tongue, but that's about it.
5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
I stand corrected, Mordecai Lethe's subordinate had said that beast laguz sometimes communicate with growls, which Lethe definitely does when she's angry.
6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
Lethe almost always just speaks her mind, not really thinking about the consequences of what's she's saying until she's said it.
7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Lethe is strangely enough fairly eloquent in her speech, likely because she practices nearly everything she does rather rigorously. The other reason is that despite being a Laguz she's actually rather well-read, and reading does tend to help one's vocabulary. However she definitely becomes more inarticulate when she's frustrated.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
Lethe is very intelligent, and actually surprisingly book-smart. She's got a bit of street-smarts too, but she reads quite a bit more than most Laguz who at times might even be illiterate.
2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
She almost always thinks on her feet.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Lethe combines logic and intuition into one practical thought process. She views her duty as the utmost important thing in her life, and most of her thought processes revolve on doing that duty.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
Lethe has mostly a military education, but it spreads across a wide variety of subjects like diplomacy, strategy, training, orders, first aid, and a few basic life skills like reading/writing for paperwork, cooking, and a few other odds and ends.
5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
Her areas of expertise? Combat training, and history most likely. She's almost like a drill sergeant in some respects, except for Laguz, and from her supports with Jill it's obvious she knows her history very well. This is also a fact supported by the official artbook as well. As for what she's interested learning more about? She's always interested in learning more about history, but recently she's become interested in trying to learn more of the ways of combat of Beorc.
6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
Extrovert.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Lethe has mood swings like you wouldn't believe. She's incredibly passionate and driven about nearly everything, and is more often grumpy, cheerful, or neutral than anything else.
8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
She tends to be very suspicious and cautious of new people and situations. She's seen too many Laguz duped or taken advantage of, and she feels that anyone who isn't on guard is just looking for trouble.
9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?
Both? She's more of a woman of action, but she reacts to situations before acting on them usually?
10. Which is her default: fight or flight?
Fight, ALWAYS fight. The only time she'll take flight is if duty would require her to do otherwise, or she knows fighting would be a pointless effort.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Lethe tends to prefer pranks or a more teasing or morbid sense of humor. Most puns go over her head, she thinks bathroom humor is crude and disgusting, and she tends to feel the same way about most jokes as well. She has a sort of dry sardonic wit at times.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them?
Not that I know of.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
So many... Leaving her sister for the first time to join the army, becoming an officer, meeting Ike's group, befriending members of Ike's group, witnessing the feral Laguz, seeing the rebirth of Serenes... the list could just go on and on. Lethe is almost a completely different person at the start of Path of Radiance to even just the beginning of Radiant Dawn.
14. What does she fear?
If you were to ask Lethe, she'd say she's not afraid of anything, yet that is utterly untrue. She's afraid of so many things that she keeps buried beneath all her bluster and arrogance. She fears losing those she loves, she fears being taken prisoner and experimented on, she fears being enslaved, she fears being taken advantage of, she fears losing her powers, she fears disappointing her king and country, she fears losing her position if she ever became pregnant, she fears fire magic, she fears what humans can be capable of. Her greatest fear of all, is to be turned into a Feral Laguz and used as a weapon against her allies and loved ones.
15. What are her hopes or aspirations?
Lethe hopes to one day be a woman that everyone she knows and loves can rely upon to keep them safe.
16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
Her fears. They are the one thing she probably wouldn't want anyone to know about her, with perhaps the exception being if she ever fell in love and shared it with them in closest confidence.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
There is none shown, and I head cannon that this is because they died.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
Lethe only has one living family member and that is her sister. Their relationship is often heated and tense but loving. Lethe would do anything to keep her safe, and Lyre would do anything to get closer to Lethe even if it means jumping into danger at her side. This is part of why they butt heads, but there isn't anyone in Lethe's life that she loves more than her sister which is why she's so protective of her.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
Just Lyre.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?
In some ways she considers King Caineghis to be like a father figure to her and Gifca is like an uncle to her. Jill is like a sister to her, and Ranulf is a bit like a brother to Lethe.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Ranulf has always been Lethe's best friend, being a bit like a brother to her, but also someone that Lethe has been smitten with a few times. She'll almost never pursue a romantic relationship with Ranulf though because she knows her sister Lyre likes Ranulf. Still, Ranulf is a bit like her voice of reason and her stability, and she's a lot happier when he's around.
6. Does she have other close friends?
Ike was probably another one of her closer friends, and one who she'd actually have considered pursuing a romantic relationship with if he ever asked it of her. Maurim who is another Laguz was also a close friend of hers during the war, and as I mentioned in passing, Jill was another close friend of Lethe's. Her subordinate Mordecai could also be considered a friend of hers, though she tends to view him more like her subordinate than anything else.
7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?
Lethe does not make friends easily at all, and is usually considered harsh, hotheaded, and brash. She doesn't usually get along with people, and as a result doesn't care to befriend too many people.
8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends?
Family, though there are many friends she considers to be close enough to be called family. Family will still always come first for Lethe.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?
Lethe is single in most of my RP purposes, and has never been in almost any relationship never mind married. I do head-canon that she had a major crush on Ike, and she had a past fling with Ranulf that didn't end well and thus soured her opinion of relationships in general. Despite all that she still cares for Ranulf, she just doesn't think she could handle a relationship most of the time.
10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
No.
11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?
Her first crush was Ranulf, her most recent was probably Ike.
12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?
I've had my Lethe answer this question before, so I'm going to let her answer that for me.
"I guess I've never really thought about it before. I've only been attracted to a few guys in my life, and most of them were the strong leader types. I don't know... it's a bit different for Laguz probably, but I like somebody who's a bit bold, willing to take a chance but knows when to back down. Someone who cares about all those around them, and maybe a bit of jokester to offset my serious side... It wouldn't hurt if they're built like a lion, and wouldn't mind getting tackled to the floor every now and then.
Someone who would drag me off to do things that I'm always too embarrassed to do, but doesn't mind that I might bite and scratch them for it. Someone who's willing to fight by my side when the going gets tough, but remembers that duty always comes first. Someone impeccably loyal and devoted... who wouldn't mind going out of their way to stay with me even if duty calls me away. Maybe just someone I can always talk to, even if it's about dumb stuff that doesn't really mean anything. Heh... find me somebody that fits all that, right?"
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?
Secretly, Lethe actually does want children someday, but she doesn't want to let too many people know about it. She's a warrior, so she feels like children would just interfere with her life, but at the same time she likes the idea of having a family.
14. Does she have any rivals or enemies?
In some ways she sort of views Lyre and Ranulf as rivals of hers. Lyre because they were both interested in Ranulf and they're sisters, and Ranulf because he always seems to be one step ahead of her in the military and she feels like he's closer to Ike than she can ever be. She loves both of them to pieces, but she also views them a bit like rivals at times. As for enemies? She has too many old enemies from the wars, but almost all of them are dead.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the Kinsey scale?
She's probably about... a 2. She considers herself mostly straight, but there are a few exceptions, like close friends, or really attractive women? She's usually more willing to go after another Laguz woman than she is likely to go after a Beorc man. Actually she's also more likely to be interested in Beorc women because of this too... so arguably she tends to lean in the opposite direction the majority of the time. Her bigger concern tends to lean more towards species than gender.
16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
Being a virgin canonically, it's a bit of a mix of unimportant and VERY important. She kind of wants to try it sometime, but at the same time the consequences of it are too great for her to really pursue the majority of the time.
17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
She's got a kinks list that I made up for smut purposes, but she usually doesn't think about such things. One of her biggest turn ons is being dominated, but one of her biggest turn offs is someone trying to dominate her against her will. She's feisty through and through, and would rather bite, scratch, and claw up anyone or anything that tries to force her to do something against her will. What she wants is someone she can trust to let herself submit to, provided of course she views them as being worthy of it. She's very unlikely to submit to anyone she doesn't feel is either stronger or superior to her.
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does she fit type?
I do not know.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
She used to be a more casual worshiper of the goddess Ashera, the creator of their world. However, with the revelations at the end of Radiant Dawn, it was made clear that many of her original religious beliefs may have been flawed. She's now a casual worshiper of Yune, but not as much as she once was, and it's not exactly a crucial element in her life.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
Lethe does have a personal code of morals and ethics, much of it having to do with 'Laguz Pride' or ancestry, and upbringing. It takes a lot for Lethe to go against her moral compass, but she would do it for the sake of love or her friends, family, or country. She is a hardcore patriot above all else, and would do almost anything to protect her king and country.
4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Lethe is usually rather intolerant of moral beliefs that deviate from her own. She's not nearly as intolerant as she once was, preferring instead to try to just acknowledge it as "well that's the way you feel about it" than trying to pass personal judgement on everyone. Some things will always be absolutes in her mind though, like slavery.
5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?
Lethe has a rather heavy prejudice towards the human race, which have quite a number of reasons behind them. She's not nearly as prejudiced as she once was, yet her dislike and disdain for most humans is something that she still struggles with. Humans have been fighting with, looking down on, hunting, and enslaving Laguz for eons, and as such she very rarely trusts humans she meets for the first time. Thanks to meeting Ike's group she's gotten to the point where she doesn't assume all humans view her as some sort of monster to be exterminated, but she is always cautious of them.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Lethe would most likely be considered upper middle class for Laguz Society. She's one of the more high ranking officers working for the king, which means her salary is likely fairly good, but most Laguz don't prize material things as much as Beorc do.
2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?
Lethe started off as a commoner, perhaps even an orphan, and she feels as though she's worked her way up from nothing, becoming one of the more respected and powerful Laguz in Gallia. She takes much pride in her position and her strength, and thrives on the respect and status that goes with it.
3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?
Her home is part of Gallia's castle in the capitol, but she doesn't exactly view it as a castle, more like some place to kick back between missions. It's a bit like an apartment because she has her own quarters part of a larger structure, though it's possible she may have had her own home with Lyre before joining up with the army, Lyre doing so in turn. If that is the case she probably would only visit very rarely to check on Lyre before Lyre got fed up with it and joined the military so she could be with Lethe.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?
Most of her money would go towards basic necessities, or savings for when she eventually may have to retire. She's not exactly much of a fashion nut, and even her collar with the little bells at the end are worn only because they were a gift from Lyre. They're not exactly practical, but they're a reminder of happy times.
5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?
Lethe is a soldier and she's very, very good at what she does. She loves her job, she lives for her job, one could even say she'd die for her job, because her job is defending her country. She'd never really want to be anything but a soldier for her country except maybe a housewife if her life ever went that direction. However she's very unlikely to settle down until she's old and gray.
6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?
Most of the time Lethe trains in her free time, or works towards becoming stronger or more capable. One of her major hobbies which she views as a way to augment her job as a soldier is learning history. She's not a huge fan of doing so through books because reading can be tedious, but she still does so. Of course, when she's not being a workaholic, (which is very rare) and there's no history books she hasn't already read, she does like to go fishing or hunting, do a bit of wood carving, and perhaps whatever activities her companions might also be up to.
7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Lethe prefers meats for the most part, usually trying to keep a pretty healthy diet, but detesting leafy vegetables as a carnivorous Laguz warrior. She prefers hunting her own food over eating out, but at the same time she's not exactly a gourmet chef, so she can appreciate finer cooking skills. She tends to avoid drinking alcohol though because as a warrior she can't afford to become intoxicated, and she's not usually one for letting go of her inhibitions.
